Suicide Awareness and Prevention…

Suicide Awareness and Prevention

Suicide has become one of those taboo subjects that most people don’t like talking about because it stirs up uncomfortable emotions from within. Much like drugs, alcohol and other addictions it just gets swept under the carpet, often until it’s too late. Today within this article, I wanted to share my thoughts and concerns on the subject to raise awareness and support people through these challenging times. It is also my aim to share my perspective for treating people through this deep depression.

Before diving into this article, I wanted to share my experience when it comes to suicide as I’ve also experienced these challenging emotions. At times in my life I have felt completely lost and alone, almost as if nothing was working out for me and there was nothing I could do about it. And though I have never taken that next step, I have been in some very dark places which has certainly not been easy. One thing I have come to realise though is that these emotions do pass and there is light at the end of the tunnel.

When it comes to depression and suicide, I personally believe it comes from feeling completely disconnected from society and the world at which we live. It’s almost as if no one understands us, and we wake up to realise the world isn’t what we once thought. These feelings alone can cause us to feel lost with no where to turn, though I also believe this can be the ideal starting point to finding yourself.

Throughout life, we have been taught to become a part of the society and culture in which we live and innately we all want to fit in. This causes us to follow the masses without even questioning our internal judgement and as we begin to do so, we drift further away from who we are individuals. This can often bring about what is known as an existential crisis where you feel lost without any meaning or purpose in your life. Personally, I believe this is common with the world in which we live, and from my perspective; the only way out is to go inward…

This is where you begin to walk the road less travelled as you go in search for who you truly are. You have to learn to disconnect from your cultural conditioning so that you are able to connect with who you are as an individual. As you disconnect from the aspects of your life that no longer serve you, you can then explore those parts of yourself that you have hidden away. It’s those dark emotions you have locked away that bring up the dark emotions and feelings of suicide. You have to come to terms with those suppressed and repressed memories in order to love yourself and your life once more.

It’s these taboo subjects we have to start speaking about so people don’t feel lost and alone but more cared for and supported. Personally though, I believe the answer to suicide comes in finding yourself and connecting with your soul. It’s about living life on your terms and connecting with the joy of who you are!

Earlier this year, I created a video entitled “Spirituality and Walking the Red Road – Shamanic Principles for Living” which is all about following your sacred path. You may also find this a valuable insight for suicide prevention and you can watch the video below:
